Formula and assumptions
A workday is a calendar date that is neither a selected weekend day nor a preset or custom holiday. Range mode separates evaluated calendar dates into workdays, weekends and weekday holidays; date-shift mode moves until the requested number of eligible days is reached.

Worked example
Monday 24 August through Friday 28 August 2026 contains 5 workdays with both endpoints included. Adding 5 workdays to 24 August, without counting the base date, gives Monday 31 August.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can I count business days for free without creating an account?
Yes. Count a date range or add and subtract workdays directly in your browser. Choose non-working weekdays, select a holiday preset if needed, and add your own holiday dates. No account is required.
Can I exclude company holidays as well as public holidays?
Yes. Select the relevant federal or nationwide preset, then enter extra company or local closure dates in YYYY-MM-DD format, separated by commas. A date already excluded as a weekend or preset holiday is not subtracted again.
Does the result list every excluded date?
The date-range result shows totals for evaluated calendar days, excluded weekend days and excluded weekday holidays. It does not list every excluded date. Review the selected calendar and your custom holiday dates separately.
Are the start and end dates included?
Both are included by default when they are workdays. Turn off the endpoint option to exclude both dates from the range count.
How do regional holiday presets work?
Choose a federal or nationwide preset, then add any state, regional, municipal, employer or one-off dates manually. A holiday on an excluded weekend is not subtracted twice.
What does the date-range breakdown show?
It shows how many calendar dates were evaluated, how many selected weekend dates were excluded and how many holidays were excluded. A holiday that falls on a selected weekend is counted only as a weekend date.
Does the base date count when I add workdays?
Not by default. Counting starts on the next eligible workday. Enable the day-one option if your rule includes a workday base date.
Can I change which days are weekends?
Yes. Select any non-working weekdays, such as Friday and Saturday. The same weekend rule is used for counting and date shifting.
